Service Week FAQ

 

  1. What does it cost to attend Service Week?

    Service Week is a free event. The only costs incurred by those attending are travel costs. Once you and your team arrive at 1440 Multiversity, food, housing, special programs, use of the campus, and entertainment are all complimentary. Café and gift store purchases, as well as healing arts services, are personal expenses.

  2. Who is eligible to attend Service Week?

    Anyone who works as a staff member, board member, or very active stakeholder in Bay Area (and select national) nonprofit service organizations is welcome to apply to Service Week. Applications are submitted by the organization itself, not by individuals, and preference will be given to those groups who send robust teams poised to make significant organizational progress.

  3. Does my team need to come for the whole time?

    Because we strongly believe you’ll get the best outcomes from a focused, multi-day, immersion experience, we will give first priority to organizations that commit to the full length of Service Week. However, if full attendance is impossible for some or all of your team, we still encourage you to apply. Please make your anticipated availability clear on the application form.

  4. What are the exact arrival and departure times?

    The program starts on Monday Sept. 4 at 3:00 pm for check-in, dinner, orientation, and the opening session. The program ends after lunch on Friday Sept. 8, and we ask that you check out that morning before noon. Parking is available on the campus.

  5. How many people need to come for an organization to be selected?

    We encourage teams consisting of key staff, board members, and possibly key stakeholders because we believe this grouping is most leveraged for organizational progress and mission execution. We would typically like to see 4–8 people from each organization. First preference will go to organizations that meet this profile. On the other hand, there may be groups that include just a small number of key staff, depending on the size of the nonprofit and the scope of the work. If this is your situation, we encourage you to apply and share your circumstances with us.

  7. Is there an application deadline?

    All completed applications must be submitted by May 1, 2017.

  8. When will I know if my application has been approved?

    We will notify all accepted nonprofits within 6-8 weeks following May 1, 2017.

  10. Do I have to attend all of the workshops?

    All workshops and lectures are optional. We encourage you to attend those that will best serve you and your organization.

  11. How rigid is the schedule?

    You and your team are invited to use the time and resources provided in any way that best serves the mission and strategies of your organization. Meal times and movement and meditation classes happen at set times.

  12. Will I have a chance to schedule some healing arts and wellness treatments during my stay?

    Our Healing Arts center will be open during Service Week, and participants will be offered a discounted rates. We recommend that you call the Healing Arts center a few weeks prior to arrival to schedule your chosen appointments and confirm costs.

  13. What are the on-site accommodations during Service Week?

    Please visit our Accommodations page to see the housing options available at 1440 Multiversity. We will assign housing as part of application review. Most Service Week housing for Service Week is shared rooms for two people. All of our housing is brand new, and we think you’ll be very satisfied with the comfort level.

  14. Where is 1440 Multiversity and how do I get there?

    1440 Multiversity is located in Scotts Valley, California, less than 15 minutes (6 miles) north of the city of Santa Cruz, and 1.5 hours (70 miles) south of San Francisco. The San Jose airport (SJC) is a 40-minute drive to campus. There are direct flights into San Jose from Los Angeles, Portland, Seattle, Phoenix, Denver, and Las Vegas, with flight times ranging from 1.5 to 2.5 hours.
