Program Description

Encounter the yoga of sleep: yoga nidra, the fastest growing practice worldwide. Settle instantly without any effort—at any place or time—into the ultimate relaxed, meditative state. It’s a reliably powerful, efficient, and joyful way to reconnect with our deepest intuitive source and tap into the creative mother lode of all innovation.

This workshop by Europe’s leading facilitator, Uma Dinsmore-Tuli, PhD, C-IAYT, specially tailored to the environment of 1440’s campus, is an exceptional opportunity to awaken genius in your daily routine.

Alternating between practice, discussion, journaling, and questions, you will:

  • Explore the science and philosophy of rest
  • Learn basic and effective restorative yoga poses and meditations
  • Understand the context and utility of dream, sleep, consciousness, and creative cycles
  • Explore tools in liminal consciousness to receive inspiration and manifest creativity
  • Gain techniques for problem-solving in restful states
  • Create a framework and fertile ground to develop creative endeavors including writing, music, business, and life choices.

Total Yoga Nidra is a resting practice that requires no physical movement. Done lying down, in a restful and comfortable position supported by yoga props, you are nested in a deeply nurturing state. There is nothing to do but listen as Uma uses voice and instrumentation to compose unique soundscapes designed to soothe and guide your awareness inward. Weather permitting, you will practice outside in the trees or floating in the infinity-edge hot tub.

    Uma Dinsmore-Tuli, PhD, C-IAYT

    Total Yoga Nidra teacher

    One of Europe’s leading innovators in the field of post-lineage, creative Total Yoga Nidra, Uma Dinsmore-Tuli encountered yoga in 1969, at the age of four, and fell in love.  She’s been practicing ever since.

    Uma leads retreats internationally, has trained more than one  thousand specialist teachers in Total Yoga Nidra and Yoga for Women, and  has shared more than a million Total Yoga Nidra practices in  twenty different countries, each one uniquely responsive to the moment.

    She is the author of five books on  yoga,  including Yoni Shakti: A  Woman’s Guide to Power and Freedom Through Yoga and TantraThe Celtic School of Yoga, and the forthcoming  Nidrā  Shakti: An Encyclopaedia of Yoga Nidrā.

    Uma spent many years within traditional yoga teaching hierarchies and then she cofounded the post-lineage, nonhierarchical  Yoga Nidra Network in 2011. Her passion is to communicate a directly empowered connection to the  creative source of life energy in many forms, including Nidra  Shakti, the “power of sleep,” and the inspirational active and healing ingredient of all yoga nidra.

    Specializing in yoga therapy for women’s  health, Uma is a mother of three and her approach is uniquely nondenominational, feminine, and creative. Unlike other approaches, characterized by fixed adherence to a set script, her practices are uniquely improvised through creatively interwoven, intuitive soundscapes of voice, poetry, song, mantra, music, and  silence.

    What to Wear

    Comfortable clothing, warm hats and socks, eye masks, and a favorite shawl or blanket for meditation. Please note that your body temperature can drop, so bring layers and sweaters.

    Special Details

    This program, open to all, is the prerequisite qualification for the Total Yoga Nidra Teacher and Facilitator Training.
