Program Description

It is absolutely possible to find relief from the physical and psychological challenges that come with scoliosis.

This internationally acclaimed yoga-based workshop with Elise Browning Miller will empower you in important new ways that result in better posture and less pain. Through yoga, one can find the balance point that allows the scoliosis curve to coexist with gravity and activates the body’s natural plumb line.

A longtime student of yoga master B.K.S. Iyengar and his daughter Geeta, Elise lives pain-free with her scoliosis. In addition to a wealth of expert knowledge and extensive experience, she provides a therapeutic experience of the precise attention to alignment and anatomical detail that Iyengar Yoga is known for.

As a result, you will learn and experience:

  • The anatomical background of scoliosis
  • Optimal yoga postures and adaptations for scoliosis
  • The cause-and-effect pattern of each movement
  • How to individually adjust yoga postures to your needs
  • Breath awareness in combination with yoga postures, for developing better structural alignment of the body and becoming more symmetrical and balanced.

The workshop will progress from basic to intermediate poses, with variations and adaptations provided. You will leave with the knowledge and skills you need to continue to use yoga in overcoming the challenges of scoliosis and create a new blueprint for your life.

    Elise Browning Miller, MA, CIYT

    Iyengar yoga teacher with specialty in back care

    Elise Browning Miller is a Senior Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher who has been teaching in the United States and internationally for more than 30 years.

    She began her study of yoga in her twenties, rather than having a metal rod placed in her spine to address her scoliosis. A founding director of California Yoga Center, she holds a master‰’s degree in therapeutic recreation and has studied on numerous occasions with the Iyengars in India. Elise specializes in scoliosis, lower- and upper-back problems, and sports-related injuries.

    Elise recently produced her own DVD and booklets, Yoga for Scoliosis and Yoga for Back Care, as well as a new edition of her book Yoga: Anytime, Anywhere. She has published numerous articles on scoliosis and yoga-related subjects in national magazines, including Yoga Journal.

    Now able to live the pain-free life she has always wanted, she devotes her time to helping others do the same with a teaching style that is down-to-earth, precise, joyful, and nurturing.
