Join medical doctor Baxter Bell and Melina Meza, author of the Art of Sequencing book series, for an enlightening and informative workshop that focuses on practical strategies for a lifetime of vitality and well-being.
During this weeklong intensive, you will experience a combination of expert medical information and therapeutic yoga postures for maintaining physical, mental, and emotional well-being throughout your life.
You will learn:
- What to do every day to support your circulatory system and heart health
- Practices for managing stress, optimizing brain health, and experiencing equanimity
- The scientific background that explains how and why yoga supports healthy aging
- Essential yoga poses and sequences and other health-promoting practices
- Movement practices for strength and flexibility
- How to cultivate long-term balance.
We highly recommend that students have one or more years of experience doing some form of regular yoga or movement exercises.
This course will provide you with the tools to create a personalized yoga program that meets your particular needs and concerns. You will have Thursday afternoon free to explore the grounds, indulge in bodywork, or relax in you favorite way. Your final session will be Friday 9am–11am. Physician, medical acupuncturist, yoga therapist and yoga teacher
Baxter Bell is a physician, medical acupuncturist, certified yoga teacher and yoga therapist, and coauthor of the book Yoga for Healthy Aging. With his unique perspective and experience, Baxter lectures to healthcare professionals throughout the country on integrating the therapeutic applications of yoga with Western medicine.
By combining his deep knowledge of anatomy and medicine with an expertise in helping people of all ages and physical conditions, Baxter teaches a healing, nurturing style of hatha yoga that balances the body’s desire for action with the mind’s need for calm and quiet. In addition to teaching classes, workshops, and retreats internationally, Baxter helps students use yoga to help heal from and/or cope with a wide range of medical conditions.
The cofounder of and a writer for the popular blog Yoga for Healthy Aging, he regularly presents at Yoga Journal conferences and at the International Association of Yoga Therapy’s SYTAR Conference. He has also written articles for Yoga Journal and the International Journal of Yoga Therapy, and is featured in Yoga for Stress, a Yoga Journal DVD. Melina Meza has been sharing her knowledge of hatha yoga, Ayurveda, and whole-foods nutrition throughout the world for more than 20 years. She is the author of the Art of Sequencing books and creator of Seasonal Vinyasa, an innovative multi-disciplinary approach to well-being, as well as the Yoga for the Seasons: Fall Vinyasa DVD.
A graduate of the California College of Ayurveda, Melina has been teaching yoga at 8 Limbs Yoga Centers in Seattle since 1997, where she also directs the 200- and 500-hour teachers training program. She facilitates yoga and Ayurveda workshops year-round and leads retreats in extraordinary sanctuaries worldwide.
Her growth as a teacher and practitioner has been influenced by her studies with teachers who include Dr. Robert Svoboda, Scott Blossom, Jin Sung, Sarah Powers, Gary Kraftsow, Kathleen Hunt, and Dr. Baxter Bell. This intensive is designed for relatively healthy, physically able participants. What is not included in this workshop: instructions for seniors who cannot stand unaided and need to practice in chairs, and information about yoga as therapy for specific medical conditions.
