Many people come to yoga seeking relief from many types of back pain—from minor issues such as neck or lower-back tension to injuries and severe conditions, like scoliosis that can result in poor posture, lower back pain, chronic neck and shoulder pain, disc disease, sciatica, and other back conditions.
Join Senior Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher Elise Browning Miller, MA, for an empowering workshop on using yoga to overcome physical and psychological challenges due to back issues and injuries.
You will experience how yoga asana, when practiced with the correct emphasis, can help you find the strength and balance you need to alleviate back pain. You will explore:
- Classical and modified yoga postures that can relieve the physical and psychological challenges that come with back pain
- The cause-and-effect pattern of each movement
- How to individually adjust yoga postures to your needs and the anatomical details and alignment pertinent to the poses
- Breath awareness in combination with yoga postures for developing better structural alignment of the body and for becoming more symmetrical and balanced.
This program will teach you the skills to enhance your yoga practice and new ways to be in your body that result in better posture and less pain.

Elise specializes in scoliosis, lower- and upper-back problems, and sports-related injuries.
Elise recently produced her own DVD and booklets, Yoga for Scoliosis and Yoga for Back Care, as well as a new edition of her book Yoga: Anytime, Anywhere. She has published numerous articles on scoliosis and yoga-related subjects in national magazines, including Yoga Journal.
Now able to live the pain-free life she has always wanted, she devotes her time to helping others do the same with a teaching style that is down-to-earth, precise, joyful, and nurturing.
