Program Description

A crisis of education. A crisis of mental health. A crisis of fathering. A crisis of purpose. These are the pervasive and significant challenges facing today’s boys and young men, according to Dr. Warren Farrell and Dr. John Gray, coauthors of The Boy Crisis: Why Our Boys Are Struggling and What We Can Do About It.

In this interactive weekend, Warren and John, along with Ashanti Branch, MEd—whose leadership of the Ever Forward Club has turned around the lives of hundreds of boys—will facilitate an important conversation about the root causes of the gap between boys and girls and what family members, schools, communities, and professional peers can do to eradicate it. Warren, John, and Ashanti will illuminate the overarching social evidence pointing to the Boy Crisis, examine practical solutions, and facilitate an exploration of your personal experiences at home and work with the boys in your life.

The workshop will explore:

  • Ten differences between dad-style and mom-style parenting and how to best integrate both
  • How family dinner nights can be structured so everyone feels heard
  • How to reverse the purpose-void boys experience today by moving past socialization narratives like “heroic intelligence” to current models such as “health intelligence”
  • Guidance for moms, dads, and mentors to make sure that children have the male role models they need.

This workshop is designed to help parents, therapists, teachers, and community leaders understand and motivate boys—and girls—from middle school on to open up about their fears, ask for the support they need, and realize their highest potential futures.
