Program Description

To love ourselves, we must know ourselves. To love one another, we must know one another. But our assumptions, distractions, fears, expectations, and personal sense of unworthiness obscure these kernels of truth.

As William James wisely explained, “Our view of the world is truly shaped by what we decide to hear.” Join Vipassana meditation pioneer Sharon Salzberg and explore a gentle but thorough method to know yourself, connect with others, and stop your mind from getting in the way of the connection you yearn for.

Whether you are a new or experienced meditator, you will benefit from explorations of:

  • Core mindfulness and lovingkindness techniques and other meditation exercises
  • How to move out of constantly spinning judgments about how we are fundamentally alienated from one another
  • Guided meditations, talks, and time for questions and answers to dig deeper into the teachings
  • Self-training techniques for learning how to “hear” more of what is out there and to “listen” less to limiting and often self-condemning thoughts along the way
  • How to find a truer meaning of love for yourself, for your loved ones, for those you don’t know but with whom you share this planet—for all beings everywhere.

    Sharon Salzberg

    Vipassana meditation teacher and author

Sharon Salzberg, one of America‰’s most well-known Buddhist meditation teachers and authors, has been leading meditation retreats throughout the world for more than three decades. She began teaching vipassana (insight) meditation when she returned from intensive studies in India in the early 1970s.

With Joseph Goldstein and Jack Kornfield, Sharon cofounded the Insight Meditation Society (IMS) in Barre, Massachusetts, which has since become one of the most prominent and active meditation centers in the West. She and Joseph Goldstein expanded their vision by cofounding the Barre Center for Buddhist Studies (BCBS), and the Forest Refuge, a long-term retreat center.

A New York Times best-selling author, Sharon focuses her teachings on both Vipassana and the deep and profound practice of metta (lovingkindness) meditation. Her numerous books include Lovingkindness: The Revolutionary Art of Happiness; Faith: Trusting Your Own Deepest Experience; A Heart as Wide as the World; and the bestseller Real Happiness: The Power of Meditation‰, A 28-Day Program. Her newest book is Real Love: The Art of Mindful Connection. Sharon‰’s writing has also been published in The Sun magazine, on Huffington Post, and been featured in O, The Oprah Magazine.
