Program Description

For both writers and nonwriters, the medicine of poetry and expression is raw and honest reflection, deepening the conversation with life and pointing the way to authentic insight and personal evolution.

Join best-selling author, poet, and beloved spiritual teacher Mark Nepo as he guides you into communion with your deepest gifts and unique wisdom. Based on several of Mark’s books including The Way Under the Way, which gathers 20 years of work, explore poetry as a way of being and caring more than the manipulation of language. The central theme of the weekend, and of Mark’s poetry, is an inquiry into the inner space of the soul and the journey of being human.

The purpose of poetry and expression is to make life real, to remove everything that gets in the way, and to help us live to the utmost. In an inclusive, warm, and inspired environment incorporating poetry, story, journaling, and dialogue, you will be supported in living, listening, and beholding each other. Return home more intimate with your own nature and fully engaged in your own journey.

Most vital to any meaningful journey is our connection to the essential depth of life—that place of true meeting that is always near—where we discover our shared humanity and common thread of Spirit.

Let no one keep you from your journey …

You are the only explorer.

Your heart, the unreadable compass.

Your soul, the shore of a promise

too great to be ignored.

    Mark Nepo

    Spiritual guide and philosopher

Mark Nepo is a poet and philosopher who has been teaching poetry and spirituality for over 30 years. He inspired readers and seekers worldwide with his #1 New York Times best seller, The Book of Awakening, and has been called one of the finest spiritual guides of our time. Mark has published 19 books and recorded 14 audio projects, and his books have been translated into more than 20 languages. His latest books include The One Life We’re Given and Things That Join the Sea and the Sky: Field Notes on Living.

Of his journey, Mark reflects that a near-fatal fight against cancer in his thirties inspired his devotion to the heart and made him “committed to introducing fellow seekers to their own gifts and their own wisdom, which always leads us to the mystery that we are more together than alone.”

Mark has been widely interview and featured in the media, including several appearances with Oprah Winfrey on OWN’s Super Soul Sunday program and on Good Morning America, where he was interviewed by Robin Roberts. He was also part of Oprah Winfrey’s The Life You Want Tour in 2014. Mark received a Life-Achievement Award from AgeNation in 2015, and in 2016 he was named by Watkins Mind Body Spirit magazine as one of the 100 Most Spiritually Influential Living People.
