Program Description

“For one human being to love another, that is the most difficult of all of our tasks; the ultimate, the last test and proof, for which all other work is but preparation.” —Rainer Maria Rilke

Having a great relationship means more than just staying together. Unless our patients enjoy trust, intimacy, caring and love with their partner, they are sharing an arrangement, and not a true partnership.

The biggest mistake that many people make is not in expecting too much from their relationship, but in desiring too little. A true partnership can not only provide security, pleasure, intimacy and fun, but can be a means through which our deepest longings are awakened and ultimately realized.

In this workshop, we will examine the unique qualities that exceptional relationships embody and identify the various means through which it is possible to develop and integrate those qualities and experiences into our lives. We will also identify ways of helping our patients effectively deal with differences and managing conflict in their relationships. In addition, we will identify and engage practices that can transform the quality of connection in ways that promote co-creativity, unconditional acceptance, and spiritual awakening.

You will learn:

  • Formulate interventions with couples that promote greater understanding and non-defensive listening
  • Describe the technology of conflict management.
  • Define the nature of one’s “work” in regard to creating a context for respectful and honest relatedness.
  • Explain the power of repair efforts with examples of various types of repairs when breakdowns occur in relationships.
  • Identify the conditions and essential ingredients that make up a committed partnership
