Rising Strong ™ Workshop for Women is based on the latest groundbreaking research of Dr. Brené Brown and led by Michelle Gannon, PhD and Beth Jaeger-Skigen, LCSW. When our clients take personal and professional risks, they will inevitably fall and experience disappointments, failures and heartbreaks. This workshop will teach a research-based methodology to help mental health professionals help their clients “rise strong” when dealing with a life transition, losses, personal or professional set back or disappointments or failures.
You will learn:
- Define the physics of vulnerability and the ten rules of engagement for Rising Strong
- Identify the values that are most important and learn why values clarification is essential to the development of resiliency. Identify emotions and experiences using the glossary of research based on primary and secondary emotions.
- Integrate the human beings who are hooked by emotion. Review the feelings associated with emotions and differentiate emotion, thought and behavior.
- Define the various ways to offload hurt and put up barriers to reckoning with emotion: chandeliering, bouncing hurt, numbing, stockpiling, high-centering and The Umbridge.
- Discuss the neurobiological research that as humans, we have – meaning making in our biology and are being compelled to make up stories – even if based on incomplete information. Define conspiracies and confabulations.

Beth Jaeger-Skigen, LCSW
Expert in Emotionally Focused Therapy
Beth Jaeger-Skigen is a licensed therapist, individual and couples therapist, and workshop leader with over 20 years of experience helping to empower people to have more satisfying relationships and live more meaningful, connected, and wholehearted lives.
Beth is passionate about encouraging and helping people to identify and reduce the choices that take them further from what they want and deserve.
She teaches and supervises therapists in Attachment Theory and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) at the San Francisco Center for Emotionally Focused Therapy (SFCEFT). She has led hundreds of women’s groups and workshops on infertility, relationships, parenting, life transitions, anxiety and depression, grief and loss.
Beth is frequently interviewed in the media about mental health, relationships, and fertility related issues. Michelle Gannon is a clinical psychologist, individual and couples therapist, and workshop leader who helps people explore and express their feelings, increase understanding, heal from painful experiences, increase empathy, and create more meaningful lives.
With Dr. Sam Jinich, Dr. Gannon leads Hold Me Tight Workshops for Couples to help couples improve communication, connection, and closeness. With more than 20 years of clinical experience, she also supervises and teaches therapists at the San Francisco Center for Emotionally Focused Therapy.

- Identify how the research demonstrates when human beings are hooked by emotion
- Review the feelings associated with emotions

Summarize how curiosity is an act of courage and vulnerability.

Practice and build skills to engage with and experience emotion including mindfulness and breathing

Discuss the neurobiological research that as humans, we have meaning making in our biology and are compelled to make up stories – even if they are based on incomplete information.
Define conspiracies and confabulations.
Demonstrate the experience of storytelling by writing a “first draft” of a difficult experience.

SESSION 7: COMMON RUMBLING THEMES AND RUMBLING WITH VULNERABILITY
Formulate participants’ emotional vocabulary and their self-awareness by using the Story Rumble Glossary.
Define vulnerability as uncertainty, risk, and emotional exposure.
Summarize the four myths of vulnerability as discussed in Brown’s theory on vulnerability and courage. These myths are: 1. Vulnerability is weakness. 2. We can opt out of vulnerability. 3. Vulnerability is over sharing. 4. We can practice vulnerability in isolation.

SESSION 8: RUMBLING WITH SHAME
Differentiate shame, guilt, humiliation, and embarrassment.
Identify the concept of shame shields and recognize that it is based on the concept of “strategies of disconnection” as positioned by the researchers at The Stone Center at Wellesley.

Identify how/where/when anxiety shows up in a person’s life.

Apply the research of generous assumptions. Report the research of compassion for self and others.
Specify how to put boundaries in place in order to work from a place of integrity and extend the most generous interpretations of the intentions, words, and actions of others

Summarize the three foundational elements of grief: loss, longing, and feeling lost.

SESSION 16: ACT III – THE REVOLUTION
Identify key learnings identified in Session 15: The Delta, and throughout the Rising Strong Workshop, to resolve how they will bravely. Apply their insights in their own lives Take some daring steps in their families, communities, and workplaces.
10:45 AM-12:00 PM:
Integrate orphaned parts of one self and write and report this integration through one or more creative expressions.

Cancellations and Refunds
If You Cancel
- If you cancel 14 or more days prior to your arrival date, payments made will be refunded in full (less a $50 processing fee).
- If you cancel between 13 days and 1 day prior to your arrival date, a nonrefundable credit (less a $50 processing fee) will be held for one year from the date of issue.
- No credit or refund is available if you cancel on your arrival day, if you do not show up, or if you leave a program or event early.
- No refund will be available if you attend a program and are dissatisfied with its presentation or content.
If 1440 Multiversity Cancels
On rare occasions, due to unforeseen circumstances, 1440 Multiversity may need to cancel a program. Should this circumstance arise, you will receive a full refund.
Participants of approved continuing education courses may register complaints with the approval entity with an option to appeal to their licensing Board if displeased with the results of the process.
