Program Description

True spiritual practice is an act of rebellion—a radical engagement with life that goes against the stream of the confusion of this world. During this 5-day insight meditation retreat, we will focus our attention on breath, body, heart, and mind to engage fully with life as it is.

Guided by Buddhist meditation teacher Dave Smith and using the four foundations of mindfulness, we will spend each day engaging in:

  • Exercises in lovingkindness and compassion
  • Periods of sitting and walking meditation
  • Dharma talks
  • Interviews
  • Group processes.

Through a hybrid of mindfulness and lovingkindness meditation techniques, we will experience the teachings and practices of early Buddhism and explore Buddhist psychology. We will learn how to develop a greater sense of care for ourselves and for our world through the revolutionary practices of the Dharma—the teachings of the Buddha. These practices can lead us on a path of meditative awareness and alleviate and end suffering.

We will leave with tools to engage with the breath and the five senses to become intimate with our thoughts, feelings, and emotions through an ancient, yet accessible path of awakening to our own deepest wisdom and compassion.
