Program Description

Discovery Weekends at 1440 are the perfect opportunity to do what you have promised yourself for years: take a break and reboot your health, happiness, and sense of well-being. These workshops are specially designed and curated by 1440’s expert teachers for those new to the key elements of a healthy lifestyle and for those wanting to reinvigorate their commitment to living well.

We invite you to explore our lush, redwood-ringed campus and make it your home for the weekend, immersing yourself in the essence of 1440 Multiversity—a place to dedicate uninterrupted time to being present to the thoughts, ideas, and experiences that come up when you set aside your daily urgencies. A place where experiential learning, mindfulness, self-care practices, and authentic connection are at the core of each day.

Discover how simple lifestyle changes can uplift your energy, your outlook on life, and your overall well-being as you learn:

  • To nurture your body through restorative and engaging yoga sessions that are perfectly suited to your level of experience; including restorative movement poses, breathing exercises, and relaxation techniques to relieve stress and counteract the effects of a sedentary lifestyle
  • Mindfulness meditation to slow down and strengthen your connection to the wise, calm place inside
  • Inventive ways to enjoy healthy eating, by eating wholesome meals and taking home delicious recipes from a kitchen demonstration
  • Forest bathing—noticing the sights, sounds, and scents as you walk among the redwoods and fill your lungs with fragrant air to replenish your energy.

When you book your accommodations, the final package includes tuition, three meals at Kitchen Table (daily), shared or private accommodations, and signature classes.

    Beth Pettengill Riley, MA, RSME

    Dance educator and Continuum instructor

    Beth Pettengill Riley MA, Dance Education, Stanford University, RSME, CYT is a gifted facilitator and guide into embodied well-being.

    With over 40 years of experience leading classes, workshops and retreats in Yoga, Mindfulness Meditation and Continuum Movement around the globe, Beth was a founding member of Mt Madonna Center, and has served on the faculty at Esalen, The Omega Institute, Mt Madonna Center, The Open Center and the Skyros Institute in Greece among others. She began the first Mindfulness Based Yoga class on the West Coast at El Camino Hospital in 1999. Voted best Yoga Teacher of Santa Cruz, Beth passionately engages embodiment as a spiritual path.

    For the past 10 years she has been developing programs for teens, incorporating healthy living principles into school curriculum. She is President of the Board of the International Somatic Movement and Therapy Association based in New York and in her spare time she enjoys gardening, cooking, walking on the beach and playing with her 2 granddaughters.

    Since our opening in May of 2017, Beth has been a 1440 Signature Yoga and Mindfulness Instructor and has led weekend and 5-day workshops in the art of living well.
