Immerse yourself in learning during a deeply restorative and joyful weekend with Daniel Siegel, MD, psychiatrist and executive director of the Mindsight Institute, and Elissa Epel, PhD, renowned health psychology researcher on stress, aging, and meditation.

Developing stronger skills for stress resilience can enhance emotional and physical health and slow biological aging.  Stress resilience is critical to those in demanding professions, such as health care providers, or those caregiving.  Serving others is a noble profession but often with a price to your own well being.  This workshop provides science-based strategies to promote stress resilience and vitality.  You will practice an easy way to meditate, using Dan’s “Wheel of Awareness” that cultivates attention, awareness and kind intention.

This unique retreat will integrate mindsight with the science of stress resilience and healthy longevity. Each session will include didactic presentations, reflective practices, and discussions. Help your clients and yourself cultivate daily practices and mind states that reverse these depleted states of stress and burnout, and bolster the fundamental biology of cellular longevity.

In this unique and research-based weekend workshop, you will learn how to:

  • Practice greater mindsight skills, including insight, empathy, and compassion for yourself and others that you can use in your daily life and practice
  • Describe the intimate connections between biological health, including cell aging, mind states, quality of relationships, and daily lifestyle
  • Discuss strategies for stress resilience, optimizing the day for vitality and renewal, supported by cutting edge science.

    Daniel Siegel, MD

    Author, renowned psychiatrist

    Daniel Siegel received his medical degree from Harvard University and is an internationally acclaimed author, award-winning educator, and renowned child psychiatrist. He is a clinical professor of psychiatry at the UCLA School of Medicine, where he is also on the faculty of the Center for Culture, Brain, and Development. Also at UCLA, he is a founding codirector of the Mindful Awareness Research Center.

    As the executive director of the Mindsight Institute—which offers online learning and in-person lectures focusing on the development of mindsight in individuals, families, and communities—he is also addressing the intersection of human relationships with basic biological processes. As a National Institute of Mental Health Research Fellow at UCLA, he studied family interactions with an emphasis on how attachment experiences influence emotions, behavior, autobiographical memory, and narrative.

    Known for his unique ability to make complicated scientific concepts accessible and exciting to a range of audiences, Dr. Siegel has addressed diverse local, national, and international groups, including Pope John Paul II, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the King of Thailand, Google University, London’s Royal Society of Arts (RSA), and TEDx.

    His books include Mindsight, Pocket Guide to Interpersonal Neurobiology, The Developing Mind, The Mindful Therapist, The Whole-Brain Child, Brainstorm, and No-Drama Discipline: The Whole-Brain Way to Calm the Chaos and Nurture Your Child’s Developing Mind. He speaks internationally to many different groups, including teachers, mental health and healthcare professionals, business leaders, and to the general public.     Elissa Epel, PhD

    Professor and researcher in aging, metabolism, and emotions

    Elissa Epel is a professor in the department of psychiatry at the University of California, San Francisco. She is the director of the Aging, Metabolism, and Emotions Center. With Nobel laureate Dr. Elizabeth Blackburn—who discovered the anti-aging enzyme telomerase—Epel is coauthor of New York Times best seller The Telomere Effect: A Revolutionary Approach to Living Younger, Healthier, Longer. She has co-led retreats at Spirit Rock, Upaya Institute and Zen Center, 1440 Multiversity, and Blue Spirit (Nicoya Peninsula).

    An award-winning researcher, Epel studies psychological, social, and behavioral processes related to chronic psychological stress that accelerate biological aging, focusing closely on telomeres and other biomarkers of aging. She also studies the interconnections between emotions, eating, metabolism, and weight.

    She has conducted trials on mindful eating for healthy nutrition, healthy weight during pregnancy, and weight loss in obese men and women. She has also focused on tailored mindfulness for reducing parenting stress for parents of children with developmental disorders.

    She is a member of the National Academy of Medicine, a fellow of the Association for Psychological Science, and she serves on scientific advisory panels for the Mind and Life Institute and National Institutes of Health.

    Epel has been featured on TEDMED, NBC’s the Today show, CBS This Morning, 60 Minutes, National Public Radio, the New York Times, and science documentaries on Discovery Channel and National Geographic.
