Each person’s body is completely unique. Spend four days exploring how to work with your personal physiology—or that of your students—to take a more informed, individualized approach to yoga postures and yoga practice.
In this workshop, we will find new options and opportunities for various body types and personal styles. By understanding your body structure, elusive postures become possible and internal limitations can be overcome. Our focus will be coming into the present moment and making intelligent decisions based on what is needed, not what is wanted.
Each session dives into a specific topic and practice:
- Anatomy and basic body mechanics, especially the function of the joints
- Feet, knees, and hips—practicing the standing postures
- The biomechanical dance of the hips and the spine—arm balances, backbends, and seated hip openers
- Wrists, elbows, and shoulders—how to practice weight-bearing postures
- The partnership of the shoulders and spine—exploring backbends and inversions
- Sequencing with a yogic purpose—how to build interesting and creative personal practices or classes that offer challenge and catalyze concentration.
Yoga students will get empowered in how they approach postures. Yoga teachers will expand their skills in offering effective sequences that take students to the edge of what’s possible in the moment and allow them to wisely manage their own decisions.
Yoga teacher and conscious living guide
Alexandria Crow is a Los Angeles based yoga teacher, a teacher trainer, and the founder of Yoga Physics, a scientific approach to teaching yoga that focuses on the interaction between the physical body in asana practice and its energetic union with consciousness.
When Alexandria’s career in the fashion industry proved unfulfilling, she turned her attention to yoga—the physical challenges of the practice were familiar for the former competitive gymnast, while the philosophy offered tools she uses to approach life with a fearless attitude.
With an Ashtanga Yoga background, and certified at the 500-hour level, she leads 200- and 300-hour teacher trainings at YogaWorks, where she also leads vinyasa flow classes with methodical, challenging, and creative sequences. Her approach to teaching stems from her belief that the practice is for everyone.
