Movement can be a tool for discovery, transformation, and healing. Join movement teacher Sylvie Minot and (re)discover joy, peace, and compassion through Gabrielle Roth’s 5Rhythms. This moving meditation practice brings greater awareness of the body and new insight into how emotions are held in the body—and blockages released—through movement.
You will delve into each of the five rhythms, which represent energy patterns in our body: flowing, staccato, chaos, lyrical, and stillness and their corresponding emotions: fear, anger, sadness, joy, and compassion. Through moving exercises, dancing, and guided group exercises, you will use each rhythm as a tool for transformation as you explore how to:
- Move with and through the emotions that arise when you move your body
- Draw upon the elements of earth, fire, water, air, and ether as resources and guides
- Separate your “stories” and history from your emotions
- Increase awareness of your body and see how you move through old patterns and obstacles—and learn how to release them through movement.
You will move and dance with many different genres of music as you experience guided exercises to generate a sense of heightened well-being and connection to your body. This work reconnects us to a place of peace and compassion, which we can then bring out into the world.
This workshop is accessible for anyone interested in exploring the body through movement. No previous dance experience is necessary—you can go as deep as you are willing and comfortable to go. This workshop meets the 5-day Heartbeat requirement for 5Rhythms dancers and Heartbeat teachers-in-training.
5Rhythms® and movement teacher
Sylvie Minot is the executive director and founder of the nonprofit Syzygy Dance Project, which brings dance to underserved communities in the Bay Area. A movement teacher since 2000, Sylvie has taught weekly 5Rhythms dance classes and workshops in the Bay Area, New York, throughout the US, and in Mexico. She is a certified 5Rhythms teacher trained by Gabrielle Roth and is certified to teach Heartbeat.
Sylvie is often described as a catalytic shape-shifter because of her ability to meet people right where they are and move with them into new possibilities. Her strength is helping people move through the blockages in their bodies and (re)discover joy.
Through the Syzygy Dance Project, Sylvie helps transform people’s lives by bringing dance to a variety of underserved populations, including inmates, veterans, at-risk youth, the elderly, recovering addicts, and hospital patients.
In addition to earning a degree in dance, Sylvie has also studied psychology, indigenous healing rituals, energy medicine, and sound healing, and is inspired by the teachings of Angeles Arrien, Carolyn Myss, and Tito La Rosa.
The body holds not only wounds and trauma but also the medicine to heal, which you can access through movement.
Step into community, find freedom in movement, and align your heart to awaken your spirit.
