Yoga is the practice of presence. Come transition powerfully from winter—an internal period—into the season of spring, a time of renewal. Join yoga instructor Sarana Miller for an enlivening weekend devoted to chanting, pranayama, meditation, and yoga asana.
With almost 20 years of teaching experience, Sarana is known for her compassionate approach to yoga, skillful hands-on adjustments, and ability to meet a range of students wherever they are in their practice. Throughout the retreat you will explore a variety of active and restorative poses, kirtan, and sitting meditation. You will:
- Engage in simple pranayama (breathwork) techniques known to reduce stress and anxiety and improve sleep
- Practice chanting, or Bhakti yoga, the yoga of the heart
- Flow through yoga asanas, adjusted for all levels, to bring more balance and ease while sitting, standing, and moving through daily life
- Develop sitting meditation, because building concentration allows us to live more in line with the present moment.
Whether you’re new to yoga or you are a seasoned practitioner, this enriching weekend will offer you an immersive chance to connect to your practice and welcome spring with grounded intention and an open heart.
Sarana Miller has been teaching yoga in California, Mexico, and Alaska for almost 20 years. Her calming presence is known to guide students towards greater alignment, focus, and ease of movement. Her teaching is designed for a range of body types and ages, and her playfulness and joy infuse the precision and challenge of all of her classes.
Sarana draws on many yoga styles. Her teaching is based in the Iyengar tradition and influenced by many years of in-depth study with master teachers Rodney Yee, Thomas Fortel, Ana Forrest, Sarah Powers, and American kirtan master Jai Uttal. Sarana is on the faculty at the Esalen Institute and created the SaranaYoga program at Wilbur Hot Springs.
Sarana inspires acceptance, self-confidence, awareness, and trust through the careful attention and hands-on adjustments she gives her students. Always coming back to the breath, yoga with Sarana is a practice of deepening self-connection.
A lover of wild places, Sarana lives with her husband in Berkeley, California, and in Haines, Alaska, where she teaches retreats in the summer. In Alaska, when she’s not on the yoga mat, Sarana loves to hike, pick berries, hunt for mushrooms, and watch the tide change.View Bio Page
