Program Description

An injury is a setback for anyone, but for the athlete, it can be soul-crushing—squashing dreams, stealing physical outlets, and entirely killing careers. Athletes need trainers, coaches, and teachers who know how to prevent injury. And Gwen Lawrence’s Power Yoga for Sports™ Training is a perfect way to keep the athletic body in motion and mind in the game.

Gwen Lawrence, LMT, E-RYT 500, IAYT, has been teaching yoga to athletes for over twenty years, working with teams like the New York Giants and the New York Knicks. In this 5-day retreat she will teach you Power Yoga for Sports: a detailed method which illustrates why and how to bring the ancient practice of yoga onto the modern-day field.

Through lecture, discussion, yoga classes, and experiential discovery, you will learn:

  • Power Yoga for Sports poses for assessing athletes in the moment and over time
  • Techniques for managing an athlete’s tight spots and areas of weakness, along with on-the-spot routines for avoiding and preventing injury
  • Keys for bolstering and maintaining knee, hip, neck, shoulder, and back health
  • What a mindfulness practice can mean for athletes and how to teach it to this demographic.

Leave ready to bring yoga to a range of athletes. You’ll return home with new eyes for assessing them, the techniques to teach them, and the motivation and knowledge to make a difference in their lives. This course is also the start of the process for obtaining certification in the Power Yoga for Sports method.

    Yoga teacher to professional athletes

    For over 20 years, Gwen Lawrence has been the yoga instructor for teams such as the New York Giants, New York Knicks, Redbulls, and Rangers, as well as for members of the Yankees. Creator of The Way of the Mindful Athlete curriculum, Gwen trains people around the world—in 18 countries and 28 states—teaching professional development at esteemed colleges. Through her yoga school, she certifies coaches, yogis, trainers, and physical education teachers with 200- and 300-hour trainings, giving them the skills to take yoga beyond the ashram and onto the field.

    This workshop is for 200-hour yoga teachers, physical education teachers, coaches, and trainers—you must have a baseline of anatomical knowledge, as anatomy will not be taught.
