There’s a growing awareness that alignment is important in the assessment and effectiveness of exercise. But good form during exercise class alone is not typically enough for our well-being. Alignment is more than the orientation of your bones and joints—it is bigger than your body parts. Join celebrated author and biomechanist Katy Bowman for an exploration of what alignment is, as well as how to apply these same principles both on and, especially, off the mat.
Mat-based movement professionals and exercisers will learn:
- More complex and functional versions of common mat-based exercises
- The variations in movement that outdoor- and nature-time facilitate
- How we can benefit from engaging in the natural movement equivalents of our mat exercises.
Katy will help you to leave feeling stronger and more capable of getting more movement in your life. In this program, she combines indoor mat work with some outdoor movement time—you’ll be introduced to what she calls “vitamin texture” via barefoot and on-earth exercise.
Together, you will expand your understanding of alignment and natural movement, increasing the complexity and effectiveness of your mat work. With this knowledge, mat-based movement teachers can begin to offer more diversity in their classes, including elements of natural movement, even in a mat-based context.
