Faculty Bio
Roger Jahnke, OMD
Doctor of Chinese medicine and qigong teacher trainer
Dr. Roger Jahnke has over 35 years of experience in clinical Chinese medicine. He has taken groups to China nine times to explore qi in hospitals, temples, and sacred mountain sites. He is the director of the Institute of Integral Qigong and Tai Chi (IIQTC), one of the most respected training and research centers outside of China.
Dr. Jahnke is an enthusiastic spokesperson for the practical application of mind-body practice for citizen health self-reliance and widespread health patriotism through which the people help government solve the medical intervention crisis. He also leads workshops and training sessions at retreat centers such as Esalen Institute, Omega Institute, and Kripalu Center.
Among his publications, Dr. Jahnke has two widely revered books on qigong and tai chi, The Healer Within and The Healing Promise of Qi. Dr. Jahnke and colleagues at the IIQTC have contributed to the research evidence base and have trained well over 1,000 teachers and practice leaders internationally.
View Bio PageJessica KolbeJessica Kolbe teaches qigong, tai chi and meditation and is known for her imagery, imagination and visualizations. She shares her easy, light-hearted approach on her award-winning TV show, Qigong with Jessica Kolbe, which has received both US Congressional and California Senate recognition for healing in her community.
Jessica discovered qigong and tai chi in 1999 when she was a professional windsurfer and interior designer. These practices gave her the techniques to reduce stress, improve focus, and to heal herself physically, emotionally, and spiritually. She is passionate about sharing these practices with others. As a senior teacher trainer for the Institute of Qigong and Tai Chi, she trains future instructors. Based in Santa Barbara, Jessica leads classes, workshops, corporate wellness programs, certification trainings, and private healing sessions.
Jessica’s expertise is in Emotional Healing Qigong, Animal Frolics Qigong, Wudang Tai Chi, Tai Chi Easy, and Medical Qigong. She has been to China three times to further her studies. Jessica leads spiritual trips to China to study qigong, tai chi, Taoism, Buddhism, tea, and Chinese culture.

The tone of these retreats is one of reverence, introspection, community building and personal intent. We create a deep experience with meditation, prayer, mindfulness, learning, service and cultivation of personal improvement through physical vitality and well being, emotional clarity and spiritual enrichment. You are encouraged to bring your journal, your favorite scriptures and a sense of openness. Be prepared to design an outline for a community practice project or for an institution or group in your area. You will gain practical experience in leading a group in a context that is non-competitive and a lot of fun.
