Program Description

Qigong is an ancient Asian system of health and self-development. Its slow, circular, repetitive movements invoke a sense of inner peace and relaxation. The practice involves meditation and movement, which develops internal calm and brings the body into greater harmony.

The ancient Chinese scholars believed that the universe consists of five basic elements—metal, water, wood, fire, and earth. Five Element Qigong works with these elements and what they correlate to within our bodies.

Join teacher Matthew Cohen, E-RYT 500, the only representative in the United States with the blessing of master Liu Xuyang to teach this style of qigong. You will learn:

  • The Five Element Qigong practice, which is done in alternating intervals of standing poses and walking meditation
  • How to transition smoothly and seamlessly, from the sacred to everyday activities
  • Proper alignment and use of the Taoist “natural breath.”

There will be plenty of time to answer questions and grow in this practice together. By the end of the weekend, you will have a complete practice to take home and continue on your own.

    Matthew Cohen, E-RYT 500

    Qigong expert, creator of Sacred Energy Arts

    Sifu Matthew Cohen is the founder and creator of Sacred Energy Arts, an integrated system of health and self-development drawing from yoga, qigong, and martial arts. Matthew developed this method after discovering that even though yoga, qigong, and the internal martial arts each stand alone as great health systems, together they create a complete practice.

    At a young age, Matthew instinctively gravitated toward yoga, discovering the hidden secrets within the breath, balance, and strength of the poses. Matthew’s practice continued to grow, as he obtained certifications in ashtanga and hatha yoga under Tim Miller, Max Strom, Sarah Powers, and Saul David Raye.

    At age 12, Matthew began martial arts training at Kam Yuen’s School of Tai Mantis Kung Fu, eventually earning the rank of fifth-degree black belt. He went on to attain the title of Guru in Kun Tao Silat under the masterful Willem de Thouars.

    Inspired by these teachers and their ability to draw great inner strength from these practices, Matthew went on to study the three great internal martial arts of China: tai chi, xing yi, and ba gua. He is based in Malibu, California.
