Program Description

In the words of Thich Nhat Hanh, “If you look deeply into the palm of your hand, you will see your parents and all generations of your ancestors. All of them are alive in this moment.  Each is present in your body. You are the continuation of each of these people.”

Join movement teacher Sylvie Minot for five days of dancing with your ancestry. Grounded in Gabrielle Roth’s 5Rhythms, amoving meditation practice to inspire new awareness and release blockages, this workshop will be a time to connect with the wisdom and medicine of the lineage that lives on in your heart, soul, collective memory, and DNA.

Through moving exercises, dancing, and guided group exercises, you will use each of the 5Rhythms—flowing, staccato, chaos, lyrical, and stillness—to explore how you can:

  • Reconnect to your roots and come into an improved and deepened relationship with your own history
  • Connect with intention to your guardian spirits and the land
  • Honor, give thanks, and embody forgiveness and healing for yourself, your ancestors, and the earth
  • Use movement as a tool for discovery and transformation.

We call on the wisdom and medicine of our lineage, the power of ancestral lands and nature, and the spirit of animal clans to guide us on this journey. Accessible for anyone interested in movement, this workshop will awaken you to the generations of wisdom that live deep within the palm of your hand.

    Sylvie Minot

    5Rhythms® and movement teacher

Sylvie Minot is the executive director and founder of the nonprofit Syzygy Dance Project, which brings dance to underserved communities in the Bay Area. A movement teacher since 2000, Sylvie has taught weekly 5Rhythms dance classes and workshops in the Bay Area, New York, throughout the US, and in Mexico. She is a certified 5Rhythms teacher trained by Gabrielle Roth and is certified to teach Heartbeat.

Sylvie is often described as a catalytic shape-shifter because of her ability to meet people right where they are and move with them into new possibilities. Her strength is helping people move through the blockages in their bodies and (re)discover joy.

Through the Syzygy Dance Project, Sylvie helps transform people’s lives by bringing dance to a variety of underserved populations, including inmates, veterans, at-risk youth, the elderly, recovering addicts, and hospital patients.

In addition to earning a degree in dance, Sylvie has also studied psychology, indigenous healing rituals, energy medicine, and sound healing, and is inspired by the teachings of Angeles Arrien, Carolyn Myss, and Tito La Rosa.

  • Why Attend
    • Your body holds the key to your lineage: your bones, blood, and skin are a direct and palpable gift from your ancestors. Moving your body is a powerful way to celebrate life-yours and theirs.

    • If you seek healing, purpose, or inspiration, or if there is an ancestor you want to connect with, now is the time.

    • Study with a teacher who trained directly with the late Gabrielle Roth, creator of 5Rhythms.
