Program Description

Train in one of the most effective approaches available for addressing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and the emotional impact caused by traumatic events.

Developed by medical doctors Richard P. Brown, MD, and Patricia Gerbarg, MD, the Breath, Body, Mind program integrates ancient and modern trauma-sensitive techniques to rapidly balance stress-response systems. Breath, Body, Mind has been used with proven benefits for health-care professionals, patients, military veterans, and survivors of mass disasters, including the Asia tsunami, 9/11, the Gulf oil spill, the Rwanda genocide, and slavery in Sudan.

Dive deep into learning and practice in this engaging experiential training. You will learn:

  • 1. Demonstrate basic Breath-Body-Mind-body practices to healthy individuals as well as those suffering from stress, anxiety, insomnia, depression, trauma, PTSD, post-disaster, stress-related medical conditions, or physical pain
  • 2. Discuss precautions, safety measures, and methods to manage potential problems that may arise in the teaching of these practices
  • 3. Explain breath-body-mind practices in trauma sensitive ways
  • 4. Summarize the neurophysiology and research support relevant to techniques taught during the workshop, including effects of Coherent Breathing on balancing the stress response system

This Level-1 Breath-Body-Mind teaches a specific set of movements, breathing practices, and relaxation techniques including Coherent Breathing, “HA” breath, Breath Moving, gentle Qigong Movements with Breathing, and body scans for clients and patients. Participants can adapt the practices to their work settings, for example, healthcare facilities, private offices, clinics, hospitals, educational institutions, yoga classes, or disaster areas. They will also be able to prevent and relieve stress and burnout among healthcare providers, teachers, NGO workers, or caregivers. Within the program, special modules focus on working with children, refugees, and military veterans.
