    Thomas M. Campbell, MD

    Physician, medical director of T. Colin Campbell Center

    Dr. Thomas M. Campbell II is the medical director of the Highland Weight Management and Lifestyle Center, where he works with individuals and groups to lose weight and prevent and treat illness using diet and lifestyle. A board-certified family physician and specialist in obesity medicine, Dr. Campbell is also the medical director and an educator at the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies, a nonprofit organization in Ithaca, New York, which promotes optimal nutrition through science-based education, advocacy, and research in partnership with eCornell, Cornell University’s online course provider.

    A graduate of Cornell University, Thomas is the author of The China Study Solution: The Simple Way to Lose Weight and Reverse Illness, Using a Whole-Food, Plant-Based Diet. He is coauthor, with his father T. Colin Campbell, PhD, of The China StudyThe China Study has sold over two million copies and the documentary Forks Over Knives was inspired in part by the work presented in The China Study.

    Dr. Campbell got his medical degree from the University at Buffalo School of Medicine and completed residency training in family medicine at the University of Rochester, Highland Hospital. He was awarded the UB 2010 American Academy of Family Physicians award for Excellence in Family Medicine along with UB’s 2010 Humanitarian Zebra Award for “dedication to patients and willingness to consider unusual diagnoses.” Thomas regularly presents on the topic of nutrition and health, both for professional audiences and laypeople. He has published in the Israel Medical Association JournalPermanente Journal, and the Journal of Geriatric Cardiology and in CME publications Primary Care Reports and Integrative Medicine Alert. He has also completed multiple marathons.

    Erin Campbell, MD, MPH

    Erin Campbell is an assistant professor of Clinical Public Health Sciences at University of Rochester and a board-certified preventive medicine physician. She is research director at the Weight Management and Lifestyle Center at Highland Hospital, University of Rochester, where she studies the role of plant-based nutrition as a therapy in various diseases and co-teaches a medically supervised 12-week plant-based nutrition program for patients.

    Dr. Campbell attended medical school at the University at Buffalo, interning in pediatrics at the University of Rochester, and completing her general preventive medicine residency and chief residency at the University at Buffalo. Her master’s degree in public health focused on community health and health behaviors. During her residency training, Erin was involved in teaching, evaluating, and presenting the results of a nutrition and health initiative for medical students and public health students at University at Buffalo. Her noncredit classes used a multidisciplinary approach to teach clinically relevant nutrition.

    Dr. Campbell and her partner Dr. Thomas M. Campbell II are conducting one of the first clinical trials ever done of comprehensive dietary change in advanced breast cancer patients, among other promising research projects.
