Program Description

How often have you used “athlete” and “shaman” in the same sentence? It is time to start. Stop nurturing your body and soul through separate avenues of practice—learn how to bring these worlds together for a more balanced, sustainable, and harmonious life.

Based on their award-winning book Fit Soul, Fit Body: 9 Keys to a Healthier, Happier You, this program combines the immensely successful healthy living techniques of Mark Allen, six-time Hawaii Ironman World Champion, with the ancient wisdom of shaman and healer Brant Secunda, who immersed in a 12-year apprenticeship with the indigenous Huichol people of Mexico.

In a weekend of lecture, guided group and individual practice, ceremony, and outdoor activity, you will learn:

  • How to slow down to get faster by utilizing sustainable physical practice with a greater awareness of your inner physiology
  • Mindful eating habits based on your ancient core genetics

    Brant Secunda

    Shaman, healer, thought leader, indigenous culture preservationist

    Brant Secunda is an internationally acclaimed shaman, healer, and teacher in the indigenous Huichol tradition of Mexico. During an intensive 12-year apprenticeship, Brant became the adopted grandson and close companion of Don José Matsuwa, the renowned shaman who passed away in 1990 at the age of 110. Brant was chosen by Don José to take his place in helping to carry on Huichol shamanism. He founded the Dance of the Deer Foundation Center for Shamanic Studies in 1979 and leads seminars, retreats, and pilgrimages worldwide. His work has been documented on television, radio, and in articles and books throughout the world.

    To help provide sustainable cultural and economic support for the Huichol tribe, Brant founded the Huichol Foundation, which continues to expand upon his more than four decades of indigenous cultural preservation projects throughout the Sierra Madre Mountains and around the globe.

    Alongside other dignitaries including President Jimmy Carter, Brant cofounded the Peace University in Berlin and was also a cofounder of the Humanistic Medicine Conference with the World Health Organization. Recognized as a global thought leader and spiritual teacher, Brant has been a lecturer at the Mayo Clinic and the American Holistic Medical Association conferences, and is a faculty member of the Five Branches University, a graduate school for traditional Chinese medicine.

    Striving to bridge the worlds of fitness and spirituality, Brant coauthored the award-winning book Fit Soul, Fit Body: 9 Keys to a Healthier, Happier You.

    Mark Allen

    Ironman World Champion, coach, author, sports commentator

    Mark Allen is a six-time Hawaii Ironman World Champion. He was called The World’s Fittest Man by Outside magazine and voted The Greatest Endurance Athlete of All Time in a worldwide poll conducted by ESPN.

    Mark attributes his success to his ongoing studies with Brant Secunda, who showed him how to find fitness not only in physical strength, but in the power of personal spirit and balanced living. Mark and his races have been featured numerous times on major network television and in national publications; he has appeared on more than 100 popular magazine covers worldwide.

    Since leaving sports after a successful 15-year career while still at the top of his game, Mark works as a sports commentator and advisor for NBC. He also consults with and speaks to many Fortune 500 companies, including American Express, Oracle, FranklinCovey, and Northwestern Mutual.

    Mark is the founder of Mark Allen Coaching, which has helped guide hundreds of athletes to success. He is also the coauthor of the award-winning book Fit Soul, Fit Body: 9 Keys to a Healthier, Happier You.
