We carry our stories inside of us. Some are easier to tell than others. There are tales we polish into well-formed, amusing anecdotes. Others we bury deep until they rise up and take us by surprise. Some we don’t even know we carry—these stories are born from secrets we’ve kept or the secrets we uncover.
Join New York Times best-selling author Dani Shapiro for an experience that will continue to transform you long after you return home. This workshop is inspired by her most recent memoir, Inheritance, in which she unlocks her own identity after learning a deeply buried family secret. In it she integrates her expertise in excavating life stories and articulating the transcendence of self-discovery and self-definition.
Together, you will explore the courage, persistence, and patience that it takes to dive into memory and generate new work. You will experience a powerful blend of meditation and movement accessible to everyone, generative writing exercises, group sharing, and discussion.
When we attempt to uncover our deepest truths and write these stories, we often encounter our own resistance. This workshop harnesses one of the most powerful ways to overcome resistance and self-censorship. Know your own body and mind, where these stories live. Then truly reveal your essential nature and find authenticity, joy, and liberation in telling your tale.
