Program Description

Are you someone who wants to start running? A runner who dreams of running for the rest of your life? Either way, running mindfully is key to mastering the miles.

Come transform your running experience in this experiential weekend with master ChiRunning instructor and marathon coach Aracely Areas, and running legend and tai chi instructor Esmail Rahimian, PhD. Through a complementary blend of correct postural alignment, strength building, balance in motion, relaxation techniques, restorative stretches, and mindful exercises, you will learn:

  • Running biomechanics and how to develop a personalized running plan
  • ChiRunning and tai chi practices to enhance your performance and well-being
  • How to increase your lung capacity so you can feel lighter and more relaxed on every run
  • How to listen to and abide by the wisdom of your own body.

Leave with empowering techniques to achieve increased balance, alignment, fine motor control, rhythm of movement, harmony, well-being, and mental focus. This weekend will offer runners at any level a more efficient and effective way to hit the tracks, trails, and roadways.

    Aracely Areas

Running coach and master ChiRunning® instructor

Aracely Areas is a master ChiRunning instructor who has been teaching since 2004. She has been personally trained and mentored by Danny Dreyer, the founder of ChiRunning and ChiWalking® techniques.

After 15 years of experiencing the challenges, injuries, and physical pain of power running, Aracely enjoyed running five miles without pain for the first time when she met Danny in 1999 and had a one-on-one coaching session on the ChiRunning technique.

Based in San Jose, California, Aracely has assisted Danny and master instructors in workshops and running coach trainings nationally and internationally. She also teaches privately to individuals and groups.

Aracely is also a certified Pilates instructor, marathon coach, and a black belt in tae kwon do. She has been a coach and member of San Jose FIT, RUN365, and Nike Run Club.

She has completed 24 marathons pain-free, and is passionate about teaching and sharing her running experience with others. She is the founder of Carrera Internacional de la Mujer, an initiative to help women build confidence and motivation through running.

    Esmail Rahimian, PhD

Ultra runner, tai chi instructor, and meditative marathoner

Esmail Rahimian began racing in 2002 and has completed 50 half marathons and over 200 marathons and ultras. Esmail has run marathons in all 50 states and races on every continent.

Esmail believes mental strength and visualization are as important as muscle memory in training. As a certified tai chi instructor, he cross-trains with tai chi and qigong. He also practices meditative running, hatha yoga, and core-strength training. For Esmail, the hardest part of a race is getting to the start line—the best part is the miles he does not remember.

Esmail enjoys trail running and is now focused on local ultras. Although he has traveled to many places to race, his favorite course remains the Big Sur International Marathon. His most challenging courses so far have been in Death Valley and Antarctica. As a Blazer Award recipient, he has placed first in his age group for the past three years.
