As a teacher, you give so much. Now is the time to take care of you. CARE for Teachers is a unique professional development program that helps you handle the stresses and rediscover the joys of teaching.
Developed by the Garrison Institute to meet the specific needs of K–12 teachers for social and emotional well-being, the tools and resources CARE provides are backed by scientific evidence, proven to reduce stress, prevent burnout, enliven teaching, and help you and your students thrive.
Join Christa Turksma and Mark Greenberg at CARE workshop which provides 30 contact hours and a blend of didactic, experiential, and interactive learning processes. Through a variety of enjoyable guided practices and self-assessments, intention setting, reflective writing, small and large group discussions, role plays, and short lectures, you will learn:
- Emotion skills instruction for building reliance and regulating emotional responses
- Mindfulness and stress-reduction practices to renew inner strength and balance the demands of your work and personal life
- Listening and compassion exercises to enhance well-being and promote greater life satisfaction.
In addition to learning lifelong skills for self-care, teachers who return their classroom after participating in the CARE program have greater sensitivity to their students, create classrooms that are more supportive and emotionally positive, and experience enhanced productivity.
Come get the support you deserve and take home a skill set (plus CDs and a workbook) that will enhance your classroom experience—and can be applied to all areas of your life.
Christa Turksma, DRS
Clinical child psychologist and mindfulness trainer
Christa Turksma is a clinical child psychologist who received her training and advanced academic degree in the Netherlands. Coauthor and codeveloper of the evidence-based Cultivating Awareness and Resilience in Education (CARE) program, Christa has worked on numerous research and intervention projects that improve the lives of teachers and children.
CARE offers experiences that promote awareness, presence, compassion, reflection, and inspiration—the inner resources needed for teachers to reduce their stress and prevent burnout, and the support students need to flourish socially, emotionally, and academically.
Christa dedicates her time to facilitating CARE workshops and training facilitators in the CARE program throughout the country and abroad. She is also a master trainer of the Promoting Alternative Thinking Strategies (PATHS) program, another evidence-based curriculum that provides children the skills they need to find positive, nonviolent solutions to social problems.
