Dr. Ingrid Yang, MD, JD, E-RYT 500, brings her unique grasp of anatomy and human physiology to this teacher training on yoga therapy for cancer.

You will learn:

  • Yoga postures appropriate for survivors of all types of cancer, and their therapeutic advantages, contraindications, and modifications
  • The science and physiology of cancer, its treatments and side effects, and how yoga can help to reduce pain, build muscle mass and bone, and foster a healthy lifestyle for those undergoing chemotherapy, surgeries and/or radiation
  • The latest research in cancer and yoga, and how yoga therapeutics is evolving and integrating into allopathic medicine
  • How to develop and lead classes compassionately and competently to improve students’ balance, flexibility, and strength, and to relieve stress, anxiety, and pain which are often associated with cancer and its treatments.

You will also learn methodology and techniques for teaching yoga to cancer survivors in an inpatient hospital setting. Walk away with specific knowledge and tools for designing and teaching a yoga therapy class for cancer patients and survivors in a safe and therapeutic environment.

Faculty Bio

Ingrid Yang, MD, JD, E-RYT 500, I-AYT

Ingrid Yang has been teaching yoga since 2001 and is a physician specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Northwestern University. Her expert grasp of anatomy and human physiology brings a unique, thoughtful, and joyful experience to the practice of yoga.

Dr. Yang integrates allopathic medicine with yoga therapeutics to form a balanced union of modern-day healing methodology and the ancient wisdom of the yogis. She is also coauthor of Hatha Yoga Asanas.

Dr. Yang leads classes, trainings, and workshops across the US, Australia, and Asia. She is certified with OM Yoga Center and Jivamukti Yoga and is a Reiki master of the Usui tradition.

With a background in Iyengar Yoga, she combines a strong emphasis on alignment with lightness and humor that encourages wakefulness in daily life. She inspires students to listen to their own body’s wisdom while freeing its energy with the fluidity of Vinyasa Flow movement.

Founder of Blue Point Yoga Center, Dr. Yang has been a venture capitalist, a strategic business consultant, a jazz lounge singer in Australia, an intellectual property attorney, a cancer researcher, and a yoga center owner.

    A detailed manual will be provided for this course.
    A total of 25 class live hours (for 25 contact CE units) and 30 total CE units are available for those with a 200-hour teacher training certificate.
