Unraveling Your Neck and Shoulders

1440 Multiversity 800 Bethany Drive Scotts Valley,CA 95066

The body’s fascial tissue system runs uninterrupted, head to toe, connecting to every muscle, bone, nerve, artery, vein, and organ. Attend to this system in your yoga practice and marvel at what transforms: both your downward dog and your daily life.

Join expert yoga teachers Maureen Priest, ERYT, and Kyra Anastasia, as they shift the primary concentration in yoga asana away from the musculoskeletal system and deep into the fascial net.

This workshop will free your muscles, protect your body from overcompensating, and allow you to reap the full benefits of your practice through five days of observation, movement, reflection, group work, and eliminating restrictions in the neck and shoulders, an area most students struggle with as their practice progresses.

In this five-day program, you will explore:

  • Myofascial release techniques to bring balance to the body and release tension in the neck and shoulders
  • Simple pranayama techniques to compliment deep releases
  • Asana alignment to properly support neck and shoulders
  • The layers of the subtle body and how they unfold
  • Stored emotions in your tissues and how they affect your yoga practice
  • Correct activation of the marmas, specifically the junction in the neck that governs the connective tissue and tendons.

Faculty Bio

Maureen Priest, ERYT

Maureen Priest is the founder, visionary, and director of MOYO: A Soulful Destination for the past 12 years. A space aimed at building community, MOYO offers yoga lifestyle and education programs including retreats, teacher trainings, and festivals. Maureen runs MOYO out of a renovated 200-year-old barn on seven acres of land in eastern Pennsylvania.

Maureen’s versatile teaching style comes straight from the heart. She leads and facilitates programs on personal empowerment and how to lead an authentic life. Her vision for her students is to discover their inner teacher and learn self-acceptance. She believes in embracing imperfections and learning what these imperfections have to teach us about our real purpose in life.

When Maureen is in the idyllic beauty of eastern Pennsylvania spending time with her local community, she can be found leading teacher trainings and retreats across the country and around the world. She facilitates teacher and wellness business mentorships, and heads up speaking engagements on yoga-related topics. She has been featured in Elephant journal and in Mantra, Yoga + Health magazine.

Kyra Anastasia

Kyra Anastasia discovered the power of yoga in the aftermath of a ski accident as a teenager. After healing her body through the practice, she felt a calling to share the gift of yoga with others. Over the course of more than two decades, her yoga studies have taken her across the United States, to Central America and India, and back again. Her philosophy: embrace all that life has to offer.

Kyra’s dedication to healing has inspired her to become a personal holistic health and nutrition counselor. She works with clients one-on-one to help them achieve their health and nutrition goals, and to manage issues that can be improved with simple diet and life changes. Kyra’s clients love her attention to the details of their lives and her ability to respond to their individual challenges.

Kyra’s twin passions for yoga and adventure have culminated in exotic yoga retreats. She has led students to West Virginia, Jamaica, Bhutan, Turks and Caicos, Belize, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, and Hawaii. Most recently, she co-led the first Kripalu yoga retreat to India.

Her ability to forge connections with large groups has prompted invitations to lead numerous events. Kyra has been a guest teacher at the Iowa City Yoga Festival, and for several years she has assisted at Esalen Institute’s annual yoga festival.
