Remembering Our Hearts

Discovering Natural Ease, Clarity, and Warmth

1440 Multiversity 800 Bethany Drive Scotts Valley,CA 95066

What is the essential message of the Buddha and wisdom teachers of the ages? That the very qualities we yearn for and work so hard to develop in ourselves are immediately present as the essence of our being. In other words, the path of awakening doesn’t demand that we change who we are but simply recognize our abiding nature.

In this retreat, Tim Olmsted guides us through the full arc of this journey, from the settling of our minds through meditation, to the fruition of the path as a deep appreciation of our life, the world we live in, and the people meet—even the most difficult ones.

Tim is an internationally renowned meditation teacher and former director of Gampo Abbey, an important Western Buddhist monastery founded by Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche in Nova Scotia, Canada.

During this guided retreat, you will:

  • Reconnect with the natural ease, clarity, and warmth that you seek
  • Enrich—or begin—your meditation practice and experience
  • Learn and practice with a respected teacher who has studied with some of the greatest Buddhist teachers of our time.

This deeply enriching weekend—open to everyone new and experienced meditators alike—combines meditation instruction and practice with teachings and discussions. It is for anyone seeking to deepen self-understanding and experience meditation and timeless wisdom in order to live heartfully and mindfully.

Faculty Bio

Tim Olmsted

Former director of Gampo Abbey, Tim Olmsted has been studying Buddhism for more than 35 years. He met his first teacher, the late Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, in 1977 and, inspired by another master‰’s visit to the West in 1981, moved to Nepal with his family, where he stayed for 12 years to study Buddhism with Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche and work as a psychotherapist serving the international community.

When he returned to the United States, Tim founded the Buddhist Center of Steamboat Springs in Colorado, an active community that follows the teachings of Mingyur Rinpoche‰ another of Tim’s teachers. In 2000, he was asked by Pema Chödrön to direct Gampo Abbey, the largest residential Buddhist monastery in North America. Not long after, he founded two organizations to support and promote the nuns and monks of Mingyur Rinpoche‰’s monastic communities in Nepal, Tibet, and India: the Yongey Foundation, of which he is currently president, and Tergar International, where he is a lead instructor.

He is also president of the Pema Chödrön Foundation‰, which supports Gampo Abbey and the monastic tradition in the West‰. Tim teaches widely throughout the United States.
