New Year’s Massage and Movement Retreat for Two

1440 Multiversity 800 Bethany Drive Scotts Valley,CA 95066

Spend your New Year connecting with your partner, a friend, or a family member and learn how to enliven and heal your body through partner massage, dance, and gentle movement.

Guided by movement specialists Alco Chan, PT, and Moana Diamond, you will immerse yourself in Alco’s Body Optimalization method—an eclectic combination of Eastern and Western principles of healing through bodywork aimed at sculpting the body, correcting muscle imbalances, restoring function, and promoting graceful freedom of movement.

You will learn a full-body massage sequence based on postural analysis, biomechanics, and natural law. Through lectures, hands-on demonstration, and practical experience, you will study:

  • Basic anatomy and body mechanics—essential foundations for understanding bodywork
  • Massage techniques for scalp, face, and neck; torso, front, and back; and arms, legs, hands, and feet
  • Proper draping and other techniques to keep you feeling safe and comfortable while receiving massage
  • Fun, playful sessions of partner movement and stretching, and basic steps of salsa and swing to get you moving and connected to your partner.

At the end of the workshop, you will perform a one-hour supervised massage on your partner, followed by a closing circle. You will take home dance and stretching exercises, a complete massage routine, and the confidence you need to share the benefits of relaxation and body movement with your loved ones.

Faculty Bio

Alco Chan, PT

In 1989, Alco Chan suffered a severe back injury that made his doctors wonder if he would ever walk again. A miraculous comeback after a year of rehabilitation inspired him to become a physical therapist and practitioner of the healing arts to share with others the opportunity to heal and restore their quality of life.

In 1998, Alco earned a master’s degree in physical therapy from the University of Medicine of New Jersey. He founded the Alco Physical Therapy clinic in 2001 and was recognized by the AMA as a low back and hip specialist in 2003. In 2005, he founded Tension Tamers, a company specializing in the development and implementation of on-site wellness and injury prevention programs.

He is creator of the Body Optimalization method. He is an approved provider of continuing education for the American Physical Therapy Association and the National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. He has been a licensed physical therapist, bodyworker, and massage therapist in the Bay Area for 18 years.

Moana Diamond

Moana Diamond started as a modern dancer at age five in a barn in Connecticut, graduated at age seven to Olatunji’s African Dance Center in Harlem, and then as a teen to Martha Graham and Alvin Ailey schools in New York City.

She began her exploration of healing through therapeutic movement after suffering injuries as a theater performer and dancer. She received Pilates instruction certification from Physical Mind Body and from ITT Pilates.

Moana has taught Pilates and dance for over 10 years and has led workshops in California and Hawaii at private studios and conferences, including the Science and Non-Duality Conference.

Moana appears in her original cabarets and has performed in many venues in California and New York, and at dance and music festivals such as Bumbershoot (Seattle), Boom (Portugal), Winter Music Conference (Miami), and Ice House (New York). Choreographer to Michael Narada Walden’s Super Producer Tour in Japan, she was the Raspberry Beret Girl in Prince’s video of the same name.
