In this weekend retreat with Bob Stahl PhD, mental health professionals of all levels will experience mindfulness meditation as a way to help their clients access powerful inner resources for health and vitality. Bob Stahl is a senior teacher at the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care and Society at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, where the original Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program was developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD and featured in Bill Moyer’s series, Healing and the Mind.

The workshop will be a synergy of the didactic principles of MBSR and mindfulness meditation practices. Mental health professionals will learn how to apply MBSR skills in their practices in a highly experiential setting that includes presentations, practice, discussion, and inquiry in both small and large groups.

In a highly experiential setting, you will learn:

Discuss the latest scientific research on mindfulness and its efficacy

Utilize precise language to enhance clarity of communication in all phases of instruction

Describe the mechanisms through which stress exacerbates and often precipitates illness and specific medical conditions

Identify the theoretical, philosophical, pedagogical, and scientific underpinnings of mindfulness facilitation

Employ instruction and guidance of others in the formal and informal methods of mindfulness facilitation

Faculty Bio

Bob Stahl, PhD

Bob Stahl has founded seven Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR) programs in the San Francisco Bay Area and currently directs MBSR programs at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz, California, and at El Camino Hospital at both the Mountain View and Los Gatos campuses.

A longtime practitioner of insight meditation, Dr. Stahl lived in a Theravada Buddhist forest monastery for more than eight years and is now the guiding teacher at Insight Santa Cruz, as well as a visiting teacher at both Spirit Rock and the Insight Meditation Society (IMS). He conducts mindfulness-meditation retreats and workshops for health care professionals, corporations, and educational institutions, and has extensive experience working with individuals facing physical disabilities, chronic pain, life-threatening illnesses, and stress-related conditions.

Dr. Stahl serves as a senior teacher for the Oasis Institute, which offers mindfulness-based professional education and innovation at the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.

He is coauthor of A Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Workbook, Living with Your Heart Wide Open, Calming the Rush of Panic, and A Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Workbook for Anxiety.

    Cancellations and Refunds
    If You Cancel

    • If you cancel 14 or more days prior to your arrival date, payments made will be refunded in full (less a $50 processing fee).
    • If you cancel between 13 days and 1 day prior to your arrival date, a nonrefundable credit (less a $50 processing fee) will be held for one year from the date of issue.
    • No credit or refund is available if you cancel on your arrival day, if you do not show up, or if you leave a program or event early.
    • No refund will be available if you attend a program and are dissatisfied with its presentation or content.

    If 1440 Multiversity Cancels

    On rare occasions, due to unforeseen circumstances, 1440 Multiversity may need to cancel a program. Should this circumstance arise, you will receive a full refund.

    Grievances

    Participants of approved continuing education courses may register complaints with the approval entity with an option to appeal to their licensing Board if displeased with the results of the process.
