Process Painting

Embracing Your Creative Spirit
10.5 CE Hours Available

1440 Multiversity 800 Bethany Drive Scotts Valley,CA 95066

10.5 CE Hours Available

Process Painting is an expressive arts technique and means of self-exploration which leads to awareness. It focuses on process (inner journey) rather than on product (finished art piece) and it does not require that participants have any prior experience with art.
With roots in experiential psychotherapies, Zen, Gestalt therapy, and expressive arts therapy, it is a method for learning about oneself using paint as the medium to connect with our innate source of creativity. It helps us contact our inner blocks to creativity, develop trust in ourselves and in the moment and it serves to lessen our desire to control outcomes in our own lives. It helps cultivate the ability to increase presence.
The process teaches us to be with “what is”, a quality that is essential for living with life’s challenges. Because this is an experiential endeavor, students/painters can enhance their cognitive knowledge of themselves by including feeling and intuition into the present experience of self. As they face the empty canvas in front of them, they begin to confront and struggle with their self-imposed limitations and preconceived expectations as creative individuals.
You will learn to:

    • Identify inner blocks to creativity
    • Develop trust in the internal unfolding moment to moment
    • Develop presence
    • Integrate thinking and feeling
    • Connect with intuition
    • Expand self-awareness

The fruits of this journey extrapolate to work and relationships by expanding our self-awareness, giving us more confidence and trust in the process as it unfolds, and developing trust in the idea of organicity, which assumes that inherent in the psyche, is a natural drive towards health and healing.
