In this cutting-edge course, Harvard Business School (HBS) Professor Bill George and former Juniper Networks CEO Scott Kriens and their faculty colleagues lead you through a journey to discover your True North and become a better leader through this process. Authentic Leadership Immersion is based on Bill’s breakthrough courses at HBS that have helped more than 10,000 leaders, and the Leadership Circles that Scott pioneered so effectively at Juniper.

Faculty Bio

Bill George

Bill George is senior fellow at Harvard Business School, where he has taught leadership since 2004. He is author of several books, including the best sellers 7 Lessons for Leading in Crisis, True North, Finding Your True North, and Authentic Leadership.

Bill is former chairman and chief executive officer of Medtronic and currently serves as a director of Goldman Sachs and the Mayo Clinic. He has served on boards of prestigious organizations, including ExxonMobil, Novartis, and Target Corporation, and as board chair for Allina Health System and Abbott Northwestern Hospital, among others. Earlier in his career, Bill was a senior executive with Honeywell and Litton Industries and served in the United States Department of Defense.

A trustee of the World Economic Forum USA, Bill has been awarded numerous honorary PhDs and awards, including the Bower Award for Business Leadership from the Franklin Institute. He has been named one of Top 25 Business Leaders of the Past 25 Years by PBS; Executive of the Year in 2001 by the Academy of Management; and Director of the Year 2001–02 by the National Association of Corporate Directors. Bill is a CNBC contributor and has made frequent appearances on television and radio.

 

Scott Kriens

Scott Kriens, chairman and former CEO of Juniper Networks, has been in the technology industry for more than 35 years. Holding early sales and operations roles at Burroughs Corporation and Tandem, Scott moved to executive vice president of sales and operations at StrataCom before helping found Juniper Networks in 1996. During his tenure at Juniper, he served as chairman and CEO, growing the company to more than 10,000 employees in more than 100 countries worldwide and $4 billion in revenue, and he remains chairman today. Passionate about authenticity in relationships and leadership, Scott and his wife, Joanie, founded 1440 Foundation and 1440 Multiversity, a state-of-the-art immersive learning destination in Santa Cruz County, California.

Scott was honored for his entrepreneurial spirit with the 2000 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award and was named one of Business Week’s top 25 Managers in 2000. He received recognition for his achievements in the world of Internet technology, being named one of Forbes magazine’s Top Tech Execs in 1996 and one of the 25 Most Powerful People in Networking by Network World in 2006.
