Faculty Bio

Banafsheh Sayyad, MFA, MA

Banafsheh Sayyad is a Persian sacred dancer, choreographer, transformational teacher, and founder of Dance of Oneness®‰ a catalyst for divine embodiment.

Banafsheh, who performs and teaches internationally, is acclaimed for her innovative movement vocabulary. She is one of the few bearers of authentic Persian dance in the world. An innovator of Sufi dance previously performed only by men, she has also mastered a fusion of high-level dance technique with spiritual embodiment.

With an MFA in dance and an MA in Chinese medicine, she is dedicated to individual and collective healing through conscious movement. Her dance film, In the Fire of Grace, a collaboration with renowned mystic and scholar Andrew Harvey, traces Rumi‰’s journey of the soul in dance, and her award-winning work has been presented in North America, Europe, Turkey, and Australia.

Tony Khalife

Tony Khalife is a Lebanese-born singer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist acclaimed for weaving a seamless flow of the drone and ragas of Indian music together with the resonance of devotional Sufi dances and Western harmonies.

Tony, a Vedic scholar, has studied the life and songs of Indian saints and ancient rituals in Sanskrit, served seven years as a ceremonial guide at the Vishwa Shanti Ashram in Oakland, California, and spent one year in India on a pilgrimage singing and chanting from Haridwar to Pandharpur.

Tony was his own first teacher—his childhood and formal education was hijacked by civil war, so he taught himself guitar in a bomb shelter and cultivated a system for learning anything, which he uses to help students craft the most efficient system for overcoming roadblocks in their life. Based in Ojai, California, and creator of numerous CDs, he has been performing and teaching internationally for 30 years.
