Thomas Shivananda Amelio
Singer-songwriter, yoga scholar
Thomas Shivananda Amelio first learned yoga as a young child from his father. In his teens he continued his practice, intensely studying yogic disciplines and philosophy in India, where he edited Swami Rajarshi Muni’s classic, Yoga: The Ultimate Spiritual Path. He is a founding member of, and has been a senior teacher at, Kripalu Center for over 35 years.
He also serves as president emeritus of the New York Open Center in New York City, a premier educational organization for programs and classes in the field of holistic learning and world culture. Thomas has taught thousands in classes on meditation, mantra, self inquiry, Vedic understanding, and yoga philosophy in New York City and around the world.
He is also a certified professional coach and sees clients privately. He is a singer-songwriter, with a solo CD, Inner Quest, and the jazz-pop-World-Music fusion CD Shakti Fusion put out by his eight-piece band of the same name. His latest CD is Mantra Darshan—Vedic and Tantric invocations for meditative absorption.
