Thomas Shivananda Amelio first learned yoga as a young child from his father. In his teens he continued his practice, and studied yogic disciplines and philosophy intensely in India, where he edited Swami Rajarshi Muni’s classic, Yoga: The Ultimate Spiritual Path.
A founding member and senior teacher at Kripalu for over 35 years, he has taught thousands of classes on meditation, mantra, self-inquiry, Vedic understanding, and yoga philosophy around the world.
Thomas Shivananda serves as president emeritus of the New York Open Center in New York City, a premier educational organization for programs and classes in the field of holistic learning and world culture. He is also a certified professional coach and sees clients privately.
He is a singer-songwriter, with a solo CD, Inner Quest, and the jazz-pop-World-Music fusion CD Shakti Fusion put out by his eight-piece band of the same name. His latest CDs are Mantra Darshan, Vedic and Tantric invocations for meditative absorption, and the upcoming Infinite Om.
