Founder of Heart of Yoga association
Mark Whitwell is the founder of Heart of Yoga association, a nonprofit committed to yoga education around the world. He aims to deconstruct disempowering hierarchies and help people to stop looking and start living.
Interested in developing an authentic yoga practice for the individual based on the teachings of T. Krishnamacharya and his son T.K.V. Desikachar, as well as their mutual friend U.G. Krishnamurti, Mark’s teachings join the profound relevance of ancient wisdom to the unique needs of modern times.
After first meeting these great teachers in 1973, Mark realized the importance of their scholarship and committed his life to furthering the message that there is a right yoga for each and every person, no matter who the person is or what their challenges are.
Mark served as editor and contributor to T.K.V. Desikachar’s book The Heart of Yoga: Developing a Personal Practice, and is author of Yoga of Heart and The Promise.
He has taught yoga for many decades throughout the United States, Europe, Asia, and Oceania, adapting the principles of the Great Tradition to the needs of people from many cultures and countries.
