Christopher Germer is a clinical psychologist in private practice who specializes in mindfulness- and compassion-based psychotherapy. A founding member of the Institute for Meditation and Psychotherapy,‰ an organization dedicated to teaching mental-health professionals how to effectively integrate ancient Buddhist psychology into modern psychotherapy‰, Dr. Germer is a clinical instructor in psychology at Harvard Medical School.

The author of The Mindful Path to Self-Compassion and coeditor of Mindfulness and Psychotherapy, Dr. Germer lectures and conducts workshops internationally on the art and science of mindful self-compassion. A committed student of insight meditation (vipassana), Dr. Germer is codirector of Harvard Medical School‰’s annual Meditation and Psychotherapy Conference, which hosted His Holiness the Dalai Lama in 2009.

Dr. Germer‰’s main clinical interest is the necessity of self-compassion and mindfulness for managing intense and difficult emotions. He has codeveloped, with renowned self-compassion researcher Dr. Kristin Neff, an 8-week Mindful Self-Compassion program, currently being taught around the world.
