Barry Vissell and Joyce Vissell, Barry: MD and Joyce: RN, MS
Loving partners, mental health professionals, relationship gurus
Barry Vissell and Joyce Vissell, a psychiatrist and a nurse/psychotherapist, respectively, have been married since 1964. They are real people who have overcome real obstacles, and who are continually learning important lessons in their own partnership. They believe in sharing their most intimate mistakes and love to laugh at themselves and their own foibles.
Ram Dass calls Barry and Joyce “true bhaktis,” a couple who live the yoga of love and devotion. They have raised three children and “walk their talk.” To watch them interact with and adore one other and teach together with deep respect for what the other has to say is to directly experience a model of sacred relationship.
As a result of global interest in their books, The Shared Heart; Models of Love; Risk to Be Healed; The Heart’s Wisdom; Meant To Be; and A Mother’s Final Gift, they have been conducting talks and workshops on relationship, parenting, and personal growth since 1973. They are the founders and directors of the Shared Heart Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to changing the world one heart at a time since 1984. Their syndicated monthly column, New Dimensions of Relationship, appears in 80 periodicals worldwide.
