Often referred to as the “Yoga Doctor,” Alanna Kaivalya helps yoga teachers embody their spiritual practice through teaching how to create impact in the world. She is the founder of the Kaivalya Yoga Method, which emphasizes the individual path while honoring tradition.
Alanna holds a doctorate in mythological studies with an emphasis in depth psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute, and is the author of books including Myths of the Asanas (coauthored by Arjuna van der Kooij), an accessible practitioner’s guide to stories behind beloved poses; Sacred Sound, illustrating the role of chant and mantra in modern practice; and Yoga Beyond the Mat, a guide to building a personal spiritual practice through yoga.
With over 15 years of teaching experience, Alanna has written and developed teacher trainings worldwide, including a comprehensive 500-hour online teacher training with Yoga Download. She lives in New York City with Roxy the Wonderdog.
