About This Learning Event

Discover new possibilities for midlife April 25-27 at "Learning to Love Midlife" - a weekend workshop with midlife expert Chip Conley. Learn how to embrace this stage as a time for growth, fulfillment, and personal transformation.

Are you feeling bored, stuck, bewildered, or overwhelmed? You're not alone, especially in your 40s, 50s, or 60s. Welcome to midlife, a time when many of us feel restless and disenchanted. But, new research shows that after a temporary bottoming-out of life satisfaction, we often start feeling more content and alive in the core and latter part of midlife. And, Becca Levy from Yale has shown that when we shift our mindset on aging from a negative to a positive we add seven and a half years to our lives.

Chip Conley is the world's leading midlife activist having spoken on the TED stage about the "midlife chrysalis" and written a 2023 bestselling book called "Learning to Love Midlife: 12 Reasons Why Life Gets Better With Age." As the founder of the world's midlife wisdom school, MEA (Modern Elder Academy), Chip is helping to demystify and elevate midlife as a life stage of profound personal transformation.

It is rare for Chip to lead a weekend workshop as he primarily teaches week-long programs at MEA's campuses in Baja and Santa Fe, NM, so this is a wonderful opportunity for you to tap into this new way of thinking about midlife.

During this experience, you will:

  • Learn about the upside of midlife and what gets better with age
  • Understand how to navigate midlife transitions and grow your TQ (Transitional Intelligence)
  • Review your mindset when it comes to your physical, mental, emotional, social, and family health
  • Cultivate a new sense of purpose in both your personal and professional life
  • Be given tools and practices to cultivate, harvest and share your wisdom
  • Develop an action plan for how to consciously curate the second half of your adult life

Who attends Learning to Love Midlife?
If you've followed Chip's journey as a pioneering boutique hotelier and "modern elder" to the young Airbnb founders, you might have heard about his latest venture, MEA. However, you may not have had the chance to visit the campus or explore MEA's online courses. This is your chance to experience an accessible, immersive workshop based on MEA's curriculum while soaking in the beauty of the Santa Cruz Mountain redwoods with "awe walks." Ideal for those in their 40s, 50s, and 60s (though open to all), this workshop offers a powerful catalyst for life changes.

1440 is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit campus, and each booking supports our philanthropic initiatives, feeds local families, and provides resources for those in need. Thank you for being a ripple of goodness through your visit to 1440.

Meet Chip Conley - Modern Elder Academy (MEA) founder and New York Times Bestselling Author
Chip Conley is on a midlife mission. After disrupting the hospitality industry twice, first as the founder of Joie de Vivre Hospitality, the second-largest operator of boutique hotels in the U.S., and then as Airbnb's Head of Global Hospitality and Strategy, leading a worldwide revolution in travel, Conley co-founded MEA (Modern Elder Academy) in January 2018 in Baja California, Mexico.

Inspired by his experience of intergenerational mentoring as a ‘modern elder' at Airbnb, where his guidance was instrumental to the company's extraordinary transformation from fast-growing start-up to the world's most valuable hospitality brand, MEA is the world's first ‘midlife wisdom school' and has a 2,600-acre regenerative horse ranch in Santa Fe, New Mexico which opened in May 2024. Dedicated to reframing the concept of aging, MEA supports students to navigate midlife with a renewed sense of purpose and possibility. A New York Times bestselling author, Conley's 7th book "Learning to Love Midlife: 12 Reasons Why Life Gets Better with Age" is about rebranding midlife to help people understand the upside of this often-misunderstood life stage and he was asked to give a 2023 TED talk on the "midlife chrysalis.
