Our state-of-the-art campus is tucked within a magnificent forest of California redwoods between Santa Cruz and Silicon Valley. Carefully crafted to house, nurture, educate, and inspire all who visit – 1440 is part conference center, part resort, part school, part retreat center, and part surprise.
We opened our doors in May 2017 with huge excitement and love seeing the classrooms, residence buildings, communal spaces, Kitchen Table, and forest trails alive with activity. Full campus finalization was thwarted by historic winter rains, so non-critical buildings are in their final stages of completion, as are some outdoor areas. Our Healing Arts center is slated to open by mid-August, and we anticipate 100% campus completion by late 2017.
The Lodge is the welcoming center for our campus. It’s home to the registration desk, a café and gift shop, and many of the 1440 offices. Amid massive wooden beams, stone pillars, copper and iron accents, you can relax in plush leather chairs, cozy couches, and outdoor patio seating—a variety of perfect places to enjoy morning coffee, wine in the evening, or a chat with a friend.
Perched on a ridge above Carbonera Creek sits the Kitchen Table—a defining and incredible communal element of our campus. You’ll gather with friends old and new and linger to enjoy healthy, seasonal, and locally sourced meals while sitting by the fireplace or dining al fresco—overlooking the forest canopy and gently running creek.
Our four main residential halls—Oak, Madrone, Sayanta, and Trillium—offer a variety of room types for every preference and budget. Artisan craftsman construction combines with simple, modern indoor accents in each of the buildings.
Our classrooms feature leading-edge technology, top-notch acoustics, and simply elegant design. Lofted ceilings and crisp natural light form open, peaceful, spacious environments. Thought-provoking art installations accent the public spaces and hallways of classroom buildings.
The Cathedral is an enchanting forest amphitheater set amidst the oldest redwoods on campus. Carbonera Creek flows quietly beneath the stage. This uniquely magical spot oers an atmosphere like no other—perfect for enjoying an event or sitting quietly in reflection.
The 1440 Sanctuary is a renovated midcentury chapel bathed in natural light and accented with modern, elegant features. This tranquil and beautiful space is more of an experience than a building. You can enjoy morning meditation, mid-day program sessions, and special evening events here. Or simply spend time listening to others
while truly noticing yourself.
